Muradiye M. Selvi

CONSULTANT PSYCHOLOGIST,
E.M.D.R THERAPIST,
RELATIONSHIP, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY EDUCATOR.

Muradiye Selvi is a Consultant Psychologist with over 25 years of experience working in the mental health field and was the first Turkish speaking Psychologist in private practice.

Her earlier jobs involved working at Royal Park Hospital and the Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit, extensively studying the prevalence of mental health disorders within ethnic communities. She is also experienced as a health and welfare officer, disability worker, and a trainer and supervisor of telephone counselors for Melbourne Life-Line.

Muradiye has continued to develop her skills in psychology and pursued interest in the areas of cross-cultural counselling, counselling victims of crime and trauma, counselling traffic accident victims, rehabilitation of injured workers, and chronic depression in migrant/ethnic women. She is a trained relationship, marriage and family educator and has more recently been working with families and youth in the problem areas of drug and alcohol abuse and mental health.

She works extensively with adults, youth, adolescents, couples and families and along with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), uses a variety of therapeutic modalities as she strives to meet the individual needs of her patients.

Muradiye is a non-judgmental, ethical, supportive and sensitive therapist who will provide unconditional positive regard and respect to all those she tries to assist. She is a senior psychologist who has gained the respect of her colleagues and patients’ and remains an invaluable asset to the community this clinic strives to service. She is also a regular speaker on community ethnic radios and television and provides seminars, lectures and workshops on psychological issues within the Community.

David Pavone

BBSc. (La Trobe), Grad.Dip.Psych. (RMIT), M.Psych. (RMIT).

CLINCAL PSYCHOLOGIST

David is a Clinical Psychologist with over 15-years experience working in public mental health and private practice settings; he also has experience working in the psychiatric disability rehabilitation and support sector. His therapeutic approach centres around Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and his core training in CBT.

With his extensive experience in public mental health, David is comfortable working with people experiencing complex mental health issues and has developed skills that enable him to work with many presenting difficulties including schizophrenia and personality disorders as well as high prevalence disorders including anxiety disorders and depression. His skill set also enables him to work effectively with a wide range of issues including life transition struggles, trauma, substance use problems, anger management skills and mindfulness skills development.

He is a registered clinical supervisor and has considerable experience in the provision of supervision to students and clinical psychology registrars and providing peer-to-peer supervision.

Evrim is a general psychologist who has experience providing counselling and therapies to children, young adults, adults, older adults, and also parents who seek to build their mindful and connected parenting skills.

Evrim is interested to work with individuals from various cultural backgrounds, including Turkish speaking families.She is able to provide psychological intervention under: Mental Health Treatment Plan (with a GP referral), Chronic Disease Management Plan, Pregnancy Support Counselling, Offsite appointments (e.g., classroom observation session for child clients)   and  NDIS- Self Managed/Plan Managed: Early Childhood or Therapeutic Supports

Her Therapeutic approaches:  Child play therapy, Parenting education and support, Psychoeducation and relaxation techniques, Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT),  Compassion focused therapy (CFT), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Interpersonal therapy (IPT), Mindfulness based-cognitive behavioural therapy (MBCBT)

Evrim encourages the parent/parents to attend an initial parent only session to share their concerns about their child, to identify treatment goals for the child and parent, and to learn about the process of child therapy.

Burcu is a registered psychologist and a member of the Australia Psychological Society. She has experience working with individuals across the lifespan from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. She has worked in a variety of areas including educational settings (aged between 5 and 13 years of age), non-profit community organisations, and private practice. She continues to provide psychological intervention and support to clients (aged between 16 and 65+ years) in order to help them overcome complex barriers through group training and individual treatment through an employment provider for the Department of Employment and Department of Human Services.

Burcu is passionate about working with individuals towards achieving their goals and supporting them during difficult and challenging times in their life. Her greatest satisfaction is seeing positive changes and strives to provide a compassionate, non-judgemental, respectful and safe environment for her clients. She uses a client centred approach as well as a variety of evidence based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Brief solution- focused therapy, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic (family of origin influences), Child-Play Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).

Safaa Hakim

Safaa Hakim is a registered counsellor and psychotherapist. She is a mature age counsellor with a wealth of life experience and is compassionate about guiding her clients to explore their difficulties and strengthen their emotional wellbeing. Safaa enjoys working with Person Centred, Solution Focused, Emotionally Focused, and Body work approaches like Mindfulness, Meditation and Gestalt therapy. Sofia practices within a context which embraces acceptance, compassion and inner truth.

Safaa is an ethical, compassionate, non-judgmental and supportive therapist. She provides specific counselling in the areas of anxiety, stress, depression, and relationships; as well as behavioural and other cognitive issues, ensuring she can offer a wide range of counselling support to meet the needs of her clients and an organisation’s employees.

Safaa’s area of expertise includes working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds; where an understanding of culture and traditions within the local Australian context allows her to support cultural context. Safaa was born in the Middle East and spent time in 32 countries in her adult life. This enables her to build and nurture an environment that is safe and inclusive for therapies that are suitable for each client. Safaa is a bilingual Arabic speaker and her practice is sensitive to the needs of people from various ethnic backgrounds, sexualities and diverse backgrounds.

Safaa empowers couples and individuals to overcome personal obstacles to improve their relationships, using clinically tested and evidenced-based interventions. Healthy relationships can enhance and improve overall well-being, leading to more productive and fulfilling lives.

Merve Su Gorkem

PSYCHOLOGIST

Merve is a registered Psychologist who works with people across the lifespan. She has experience in both private and public sectors including education and forensic sectors working with children, adolescents, young adults and adults.

Merve identifies as a Turkish-Australian, so understands the complexities and disparities of growing up in a culturally diverse environment as a first generation Australian. She is interested in working with culturally and linguistically diverse background communities and being bilingual can cater to Turkish speakers.

Merve can help assist a wide range of individuals, including those with a history of:

  • Depression, anxiety & mood disorders
  • Interpersonal and relationship difficulties
  • Chronic stress
  • Bullying (school/ work)
  • Situational crises
  • Life transitions

She is able to assist those injured at work and on a workcover claim and victims of a traffic accident being funded by TAC.

Merve also has a strong interest in Pregnancy Support Counselling and Postnatal Depression Support.

She utilise a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities in her practice including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), mindfulness and more.

Merve also has vast experience in the use of a variety of assessment tools including the administration and interpretation of the Wechsler IQ test and is able to provide cognitive assessments for children and adults.

Merve is also able to provide assessments and reports for legal purposes such as:

  • Visa and immigration issues
  • Letters or support for VOCAT and DHHS documents

Merve currently delivers psychological support for migrants, refugees and those seeking asylum.

She also provides mentoring to psychology students in their final year.
